Program of the Activity

Implementation of the Activity

This was the second face to face meeting of the partners. For every partner schools there were 4 students and 2 teachers (except the coordinating school, who had 3 teachers - the coordinator and 2 colleagues). For the host school, there were more teachers and students.

Every partner school had to prepare, like before, presentations of their countries, towns and schools and another presentation about the ecological problems that their country faces.

The students occasionally worked in mixed international groups.

The activities included in the program were connected to the topic of the project – ecology:

Day 1

- guided tour of the Ancient monuments of Chania, photography workshop with an expert, group work in mixed international groups - each group had to take a photo with a message, lunch at school with traditional food cooked by the local students, presentations of partner countries, cities and schools, Greek night with food and sweets.

Day 2

– visit to an environmental center where we participated in a presentation about global ecological problems and then in a workshop about recycling in which the students transformed an old t-shirt they brought from home into a backpack.

Day 3

- we went to a solid waste management plant where we saw how recyclables and organic waste was processed. Then, we went to the Technical University of Crete, where a professor gave us a really clear and informative lecture about global warming and climate change. The presentation was very well suited for the age and level of understanding of the participating learners. After that, we had a meeting with the representatives of the Erasmus Students association.

Day 4

- we had a meeting with the Mayor of Chania at the Town Hall, then we went to visit an art gallery to cultivate our artistic spirit by admiring some paintings done by Greek artists. Later, students from every partner school presented the ecological issues that their country faces, while the coordinators had a project meeting. Finally, the farewell party and the ceremony for awarding the certificates.

Cultural visit:

- Rethymno, a town close to Chania

The international students who took part in the mobility were exempted from school for this week and they will take their lessons and homework from their classmates and/or from the online platform used by the school (Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Zoom etc.).

The international teachers had replacements in their schools for the classes they missed this week.

The local students and teachers took turns to be present to the activities, being with the international group for one day or a part of the day.

It was a mobility rich in diverse activities, as was described above.

- Working in international groups fostered bonding between the students, who could interact with their peers from the partners countries, to talk about their educational systems, about their interests and preferences, to see what is similar and what is different. The groups were changed quite frequently, in order to encourage student interaction on a large scale and to get to meet one another. They improved their communication skills and their level of English, became more confident and less shy. They learnt how to work in a team, to respect every member's opinion and suggestion and to come to a common agreement for the good of the tasks assigned. They used their creativity and out-of-the-box thinking in order to produce their photos, for example. Not surprisingly, every team had other ideas compared to the others, which shows originality and innovation.

- The ecological tasks raised awareness among the participants about the importance of using green energy in order to reduce the harm done on the planet on a daily basis, especially because of pollution (air, water) and waste.

- The cultural activities contributed to becoming more open-minded and tolerant of the others, to find similarities amongst themselves and to appreciate what is different.

- The educational visits gave the participants the opportunity to see wonderful unique places, specific to the area, tightly connected to the history of the host country.

- On the whole, it was a very successful mobility for everyone, with unforgettable memories and stories to share with their peers back home.
